2026-08-04 Broemmelsiek Summer Sprint Results

Jack and Betty Broemmelsiek operated their family farm in this part of St. Charles County for decades. In 2002, they worked with St. Charles County to turn their beloved property into parkland to preserve the rural character of the area. Many park features today point to the Broemmelsiek’s enduring legacy of conservation and education. Thank you, Broemmelsiek’s! ❤️

For this SLOC event, it was a typical steamy summer afternoon. It wasn’t the hottest we’ve had, but certainly not the coolest either. Two courses were offered, a 2.1k beginner course with 10 control points and a 2.9k “sprint” course with 9 control points. Some folks did both courses! Controls 3 to 4 on the sprint course offered the classic Broemmelsiek route choice: take the longer winding trail or the much shorter (but massively overgrown) route through an old field. It seemed like popular opinion went with the trail route as being the fastest (plus fewer ticks!).

Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy orienteering in St. Charles County. Special thanks to John Vogel for picking up all the controls. 😊St. Charles County.
