2021-02-27 Tame the Dragon Rogaine

Update: 2/8/2021: February 11th is the last day to register and guarantee you receive a shirt. February 25th is the last do to register for the event.

Plans are well underway for this year’s event. Permits underway, start/finish location secured, mapping progressing! Once we’ve finalize a few of the other details, complete details and registration will be posted.

When: 2/27/21, Map distribution 7 am, Start time 8 am sharp!, Finish cutoff 4 pm

Where: start/finish is at Osage Beach City Park

Price: $75 per person. You’ll receive 1:24000 myTOPO map, long sleeve shirt, post race meal, swag, prizes and 8 hrs of fun!

Who: You and your friend. You can sign up solo but we are encouraging teams of 2-5 people for safety.

Please keep Covid and Social distancing in mind when around HQ. The meals will be boxed.

Gary Thompson will be setting an 8hr Rogaine style course at Lake of the Ozarks State Park. If you thought last year was easy(no one said that) come check out this years course! Maybe someone can actually clear one of his courses this year.

A Rogaine format is find as many checkpoints as possible in the allotted time. Don’t be late getting back to the start/finish, that’s minus points. Check the instructions as the checkpoints are worth different values!

2021-01-23 Babler O – Do It Yourself

Due to St. Louis County Covid restrictions, this will be a DIY event. Online registration is opened for this event. Online registration will result in sending a download link for the course map to print at home. Then enjoy the courses and send your times and results to yvonnedeyo@yahoo.com

When: The courses will be open from 12 noon January 23, 2021 to park closing on January 31, 2021.  During this timeframe, participants may run their course anytime the park is open.

Registration:  All participants will be required to sign up online for the event. Maps and clue sheets download link will be part of the registration confirmation email.  

Courses:    Yellow (beginner), Orange (intermediate), Green (advanced – shorter distance), and Red (advanced – longer distance) courses will be offered.

There will be a NEW start and finish location this year!!

Map Printing: Please note that maps should be printed on 11×17 paper, or you can copy the course onto an existing map.

COVID: Participants are asked to only run the course with family members, not to exceed 10 individuals.

Masks are required and social distancing will be required in the park. 

Masks can be taken off once the individual is adequately spaced apart from other members of the public. 

Participants are asked not to congregate after they run the course and immediately leave the area.·        Send your result in as indicated on your registration email. Results will be posted online.

2021-01-02 Holiday O

Come celebrate the holidays by spending time in the woods! We’ll be setting up both beginning and intermediate point-to-point courses at one of St Charles County’s best parks, Indian Camp Creek

The courses will be available from December 24th, 2020 through Saturday January 2nd, 2021.

Participants can choose to do the course on their own anytime during those dates, or come out with the group on January 2, 2021 at 9:00 am.

Beginner course: $10 per adult, $5 per youth, $30 max per family. $0 for members.

Intermediate course: $20 per adult, $5 per youth, $30 max per family. $0 for members.

Both 2020 and 2021 members may use their memberships for this meet. Only 2021 members will be able to use their membership at the Babler meet on January 23 so be sure to renew your membership for 2021 today!

Format: We’ll give you a pre-marked map with the checkpoints on it. In a Point-to-point course, the checkpoints must be found in the order specified on the map. We’ll have a short beginner course (2.9 km) and a longer intermediate course (7.9 km) available to chose from.

Virtual Option: If you do the event on your own, you can either pick up the map (with checkpoints pre-marked) at the meet director’s house in Cottleville/St Peters at any time (they’ll be outside the front door). Or, you can have a scanned digital version sent via email. Email the meet director at mckelley24@gmail.com ahead of time to ensure a map is ready and waiting. Once you get the map, you can go to Indian Camp Creek at any time between December 24, 2020 and January 2, 2021. For safety, it’s recommended you inform someone of your plans. It’s also suggested you email your plan and emergency contacts to the meet director. Start at the youth camping area and track your time. Remember, your goal is to get all points in the order specified on the map. When you’re done, send your time and a picture of the punch card to the meet director. The checkpoints will be taken down after the Group start option on January 2.

Group Start Option: Your map will be waiting for you at 9:00 am on Saturday, January 2 (please pre-register). You can start the course anytime between 9:00-10:30 am. We are using Epunch for the group start so if you have your own SI card please provide your SI number in your registration. If you don’t have your own SI card, no worries, we’ll have one you can use.

Additional details:
· Please social distance at all times.
· Hand sanitizer will be available.
· Maps will be pre-marked and placed with punch card into map cases.
· We’ll be using manual punches (not electronic) for the virtual option and Epunch for the Group start option
· We will have bottled water and a few prepackaged snacks for after you finish. If you would like water/snacks on the course, please bring your own.
· Results will not be announced at the finish. We like you, but socializing is discouraged

2020-11-28 Turkey O at Hawn State Park

Mark Geldmeier is hosting a 3hr and 1hr Score – O format Orienteering meet at one of the most beautiful parks in the state! Come work off all that turkey and stuffing!

Format:  A “score O” format lets participants choose their own route and get as many checkpoints as possible in the time allotted.  You can select either 1 hour or 3 hours.  There are 28 checkpoints. Five of the checkpoints are worth 3 points (noted on the clue sheet with an asterick). All other checkpoints are worth 1 point.  Get as many as you can, in any order.  But if you’re late, there’s a penalty of 1 point per minute.

Virtual Option:  If you do the event on your own, you can either pick up the map (with checkpoints pre-marked) at the meet director’s house in Kirkwood/Glendale at any time (they’ll be outside in a cooler).  Or, you can have a scanned digital version sent via email. The hard-copy is much nicer!  Email the meet director to insure a map is ready and waiting.  Once you get the map, you can go to Hawn at any time.  For safety, it’s recommended you inform someone of your plans.  It’s also suggested you email your plan and emergency contacts to the meet director.  Start at the main shelter and track your time.  Remember, you goal is to get as many as you can in either 1 hour or 3 hours.  When you’re done, send your time and a picture of the punch card to the meet director.

Group Start Option: Your map will be waiting for you at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 28 (please pre-register).  We’ll start at 11:00 am, but there will likely be multiple starts depending on the number of participants.
