As for the 2nd sprint (the experiment) where participants were trying for the shortest distance and not the fastest time: there were some challenges with GPS batteries, forgetting to start the GPS, and of course the various types of devices. In the end, everyone’s distances were very very close.

Results:

Z Palecek: 1.11 miles

Brent Suydam: 1.13 miles

LeGrande Rives: 1.18 miles

Nathan Graves: 1.20 miles

Livelox – Publishing my route, Virtually watch event

Analyze Your Race: A Beginner’s Guide to Livelox

Ever wonder exactly where you lost those two minutes on leg 4? Livelox is the ultimate post-race analysis tool for orienteering. It lets you visualize your GPS track on the actual competition map, compare your lines with competitors, and replay the race in real-time.

Here is how to get your results onto the platform and start learning from your mistakes.

You will need to create a new account. The only information required is your name, email, country, and a password. Choose the Livelox limited (free option). When you add that you are a member of SLOC, we will be able to upgrade you to the ad free version. (Livelox.com)

Step 1: Record Your Session

To get data into Livelox, you need a GPS recording of your run. Most orienteers use a Garmin watch, but any sports watch or smartphone app (like Strava) that exports .GPX or .FIT files works perfectly.

Step 2: Connect or Upload

Scan the LiveLox QR code on the map to locate the event. Locate the table of classes, find the class you raced in, and select “Add route”. There are two primary ways to get your track into the system:

The easiest method if you use a Garmin

Use the Fetch from Garmin option. After your Garmin Connect account is linked (one time activity), you will be presented with a list of activities – just choose your activity to load.

The Manual Upload:
If you don’t use a synced service, export the .GPX file from your device to your computer or phone. Choose to Upload file, locate the file on your device and you are finished.

Step 3: Align and Analyze

Returning to the list of classes, select “Show Replay” to see your “snail trail” move across the map. Toggle on other competitors to see where they found a better thicket bypass or a faster route choice.

2026-05-05 — Spring Board Meeting

The SLOC Board spring board meeting will be held at the pavilion directly following the event. (~7:00 pm start) The Board meeting is open to all SLOC members and you are encouraged to attend and participate. At meeting, the business of the club is discussed and decisions are made – everything from creation of new maps, club merchandise, educational opportunities to support the community, and our financials. If you are interested in how the club operates, want to be more involved, have ideas that can make us better, please plan on joining us. It’s pretty casual – bring chairs or a blanket and your favorite beverage.

Who are the Board Members?

2025-11-30 Cuivre River Turkey-O Wrap-up

After a blast of early-season snowfall swept through the area region early Saturday morning, our Thanksgiving O-meet was forced to take an unplanned pause. With the snowfall leading to Cuirve River State Park’s temporary closure, this meant a last-minute rescheduling or the meet was required. Thanks to all the flexibility of our participants and volunteers, we were able to regroup Sunday morning and enjoy a crisp, bright day of orienteering through a winter wonderland.

Results

Thank you to everyone who came out and competed on the rescheduled date. Congratulations to all finishers—conditions were still soft underfoot, but that didn’t slow down some impressive performances.

Acknowledgments

A meet like this is only possible because of amount of behind-the-scenes effort. A big Thank You goes out to Mark Geldmeier for his numerous quick communication updates and overall guidance, Derek Hebda for spending many hours in the woods meticulously verifying the course to ensure everything on the map matched the ground and Ken Debeer and Jim Huss for clearing the course.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the next event—hopefully under calmer skies.

2025-08-23 Creve Coeur 4 Adventure Race

Preliminary Results:

Thanks to all of you, 80 racers over 38 teams who toed the line at the inaugural CC4 Adventure Race. On behalf of SLOC and the race directing team that put this event on, we are very grateful for your participation. Prelim results are posted. If you see any discrepancies, please report them to us at contourline@stlouisorienteering.org ASAP.

A few housekeeping notes. I’ve created a shared Google drive with pictures. If you have photos, please send them to me by email and I’ll get them posted. We also have several items in the lost and found that are pretty nice. Two Kanpas compasses, two more compasses, a pair of Prana pants, sunglasses and a waterbottle. This stuff is all in the gear box we bring to the meets so if you are the owner of these items please reach out or show up at the Kirkwood Night O scheduled for September 13th. There are several nice items in there from the Babler O meet earlier this year and other stuff along the way.

If you have any feedback for us, please share that too. While the race directing team has participated in countless ARs and put on many O meets, this was our first go at this type of race and as we contemplate both our near-term fall schedule and the 2026 landscape, we’d like to know what you are interested in seeing. And, we are always looking for volunteers to help with our regular meets so if you want to give back to the community and take the a lead, or even supporting role, in directing a race, we’d love to have you.

Many thanks and congratulations to each one of you!

Attached is a more detailed set of results with timing from each leg for those who want to go into a little more detail.
