Results for Babler State Park Virtual Orienteering Event, January 2021** Please feel free to send results to yvonnedeyo@yahoo.com for inclusion in this list
Thanks for running the course. I left it open for a couple of more weeks at the request of some members. Results were tricky. It was harder to get you to think and see what I was thinking and seeing than I thought it would be. I went ahead and did a point for finding it and venturing a guess and then a second point for getting it correct. Congrats to Team Freiper for taking home the victory.
Hope you all enjoyed it. See you at a meet soon.
Because the club has turned this into a permanent course I have removed the answers from this post. You can find the map and clue sheet on our permanent course page here. If you have completed this course, you are also now a part of the record of results on our new permanent courses page found here.
Over 50 participants were able to attend this year’s Turkey-O event at Hawn State Park. More than half showed up on Saturday the 28th, while the remainder took advantage of the course being up for a week before and after, doing it on their own. There were 28 checkpoints placed throughut the park, many in fun and interesting locations. The feedback was generally favorable, though it was a technical course which favored precise navigation. Beginning orienteers discovered Hawn is no Kirkwood Park and experienced orienteers had to bring their “A” game. One participant cleared the course (got them all), and another nearly cleared. Hopefully all enjoyed the beauty that is Hawn.
Apologies for the closing of the parking lots by the rangers as capacity was reached – some people had an extra-long hike or were delayed getting to the start.
The results include an additional category called “Map Hike”, for the people that either leisurely strolled around finding just a few, or for those that were so excited to be outside, chose to completely ignore the time limit. I arbitrarily placed people in this category, if you’d like to be in a different category or if there are mistakes, please let me know. mgeldmeier@earthlink
It was a gorgeous day to explore Cliff Cave County Park. We had many members, first timers, and families with little ones all out and about trying their hand with a map and compass! Great Job Everyone!!
Thanks to Jeff and Carrie Sona for a great day exploring Cliff Cave County Park! And thanks to Bryan Niehaus for website registration and to Scott Kelley for executing our Epunch system.
Thanks to all who participated in another wonderful meet in a great park. Thanks to Kevin Minton for setting the course. It’s great to get out there and make those tough navigational choices. While many folks didn’t email times, it’s awesome to get people out in the parks!
Congratulations to all participants. It was a beautiful night and everyone put their brains and bodies to the test in our wonderful Kirkwood park. Give yourself a pat on the back for what you accomplished and if you want to get better, keep coming to our monthly meets! Next up is Cliff Cave Park on the morning of 10/31, directed by Jeff Sona. He puts on an awesome event! Details to be posted soon.
Results: 31 points total (24 controls and 7 of them were 2 pointers): 1 point was deducted for every minute over the 46 minute time and has already been calculated.
Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed the Forest Park sprint this last weekend. The weather was nice, so I heard the crowds were out (and a minor obstruction at times) but luckily all of the controls remained in place all weekend. I had hoped to have some route decisions, and based on some of the strava routes I saw, lots of participants made different choices.
Here are the results I have as of 9/1/20. I know there are more! Let me know and I’ll get them added.
